Project Overview / Description

With Mean Sea Levels rising, Islands in the Pacific are becoming more susceptible to inundation during storm surges due to their low lining elevations. One such Island is Ebeye Island the most populated Island of the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands group.

Hall Contracting engaged CivilPlus Constructions to manufacture four segmental precast stair access ways, so that the local island community has continual safe access to the beach over the top of a new 2.8m high, 1.8km long armour stone protection revetment wall.

Project Features:

    • Four Segmental Stair Accesses, made up of a total of 168 individual keyed precast blocks.
    • Each block weighing an average of 6 tonnes.
    • Construction timeframe reduced by utilising an early age high strength poly fiber reinforced concrete.
    • FRP Reinforcement was also used within the blocks due the marine environment, ensuring a long service life.
    • Steel Formwork was used to achieve tight dimensional tolerances.
    • Transport of precast blocks to the Port of Townsville for shipping.
