Project Overview / Description

The project involved critical repairs to the DN750 raw water intake pipeline servicing the Townsville City Council, located within the Crystal Creek waterway. This pipeline is a vital component of the region’s water infrastructure, supplying raw water from Paluma Dam. The scope of work included locating and repairing a damaged section of the pipeline within Crystal Creek, with significant logistical and environmental challenges. Access to the site was severely hampered by approximately 6,000 tonnes of landslip material, requiring careful removal and stabilisation of embankments to ensure workers and environmental safety. The project was further complicated by the sensitive location within the Wet Tropics Management Authority area, requiring innovative environmental management strategies and coordination.

Project Features:

    • • 6000 tones land slip material removed
    • • DN750 steel pipe removed and replaced
    • • New concrete pipe support structures constructed
    • • Access road constructed within Crystal Creek
